Biborno Nagari(Dismal City) is a novel, written by Khondokar Mahfuz. It was published 2013. This book is about the partition of the Indian subcontinent at the time of independence from colonial rule in august 1947. Then two new sovereign states India and Pakistan was created. But what is the result of partition? A huge population exchange occurred between the two newly formed states. About 14.5 million people crossed the borders. Communal violence spread out horribly. More than one million of people including Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs were killed in violent encounters. Violence against women was extensive issue. More than 100,000 women were kidnapped and badly-treated. Samiha was one of the victims. She is a leading character of this novel. This novel is her survival life story.
